JAZZ RE:FRESHED OUTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES LINE-UP FOR 9TH EDITION OF SXSW SHOWCASE

JAZZ RE:FRESHED OUTERNATIONAL, the international showcasing partnership between Jazz re:freshed and British Underground, announce the lineup for their UK Jazz Showcase at this year’s SXSW, taking place on March 12 at The Velveeta Room.

The line-up features Summer Pearl, INSXGHT , MADELEINE , corto.alto, oreglo and Sofia Grant.

Pioneering grassroots jazz organisation Jazz re:freshed is teaming up with British Underground for the 9th edition of the SXSW showcase. For over 20 years, Jazz re:freshed has been a driving force of the UK jazz scene, championing and elevating a diverse range of emerging talent.

As has become tradition for nearly a decade, this year’s SXSW showcase features the crème de la crème of the UK jazz scene. The lineup includes Mercury Prize nominee corto.alto, alongside oreglo, the first UK jazz band to make waves on TikTok and now signed to Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings. Also performing is Sofia Grant, whose work is deeply inspired by themes of climate change, and Summer Pearl, who’s at the forefront of the evolution of jazz. The soothing and meditative vibes of INSXGHT will also take the stage, alongside MADELEINE, an emerging force in the nu-jazz scene. These artists represent the exciting future of jazz, blending tradition with innovation. 

Sofia Grant // 8pm

Sofia Grant, a London-based vocalist, composer, and arranger, released her acclaimed EP "Extinction" exploring climate change and nature. Grant has performed with UK jazz talents at prestigious venues and festivals while developing her second album.

Oreglo // 9pm

Oreglo, a genre-defying London quartet, crafts music reflecting their diverse capital upbringing. Meeting through Tomorrow's Warriors, they've transcended jazz roots to create their debut EP "Not Real People" capturing youth identity in contemporary London while garnering industry acclaim.

Madeleine // 10pm

MADELEINE, an emerging nu-jazz/UK soul artist, blends progressive electronics with soulful songwriting. This singer-songwriter-producer, influenced by Flying Lotus and Lianne La Havas, explores self-love and healing through expansive soundscapes

Corto Alto // 11pm

Fast-emerging Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist corto.alto’s debut album ‘Bad With Names’ was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2024. It’s an honest and iconoclastic work. Challenging the boundaries of contemporary jazz

Summer Pearl // 12am

Summer Pearl, delivers care-free performances with direct lyrics that explore black and female liberation. Her soul-infused sound draws from jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae traditions while channeling ancestral experiences to create emotional, truth-centered music.

INSXGHT // 1am

INSXGHT, a South East London artist-producer-musician who is inspired by Robert Glasper and J Dilla. His Live album ‘A Night with INSXGHT’ was released early last year and the blend of jazz, hip-hop and gospel chops made waves on the uk jazz scene
